BUYERS BEWARE!!! COOKTOP STINKS!!!
We bought this oven/range in 11/2012 during a kitchen remodel. Our family is pretty much grown so we use is sparingly. I have fried on the cooktop twice. Afterwards I cleaned it with the cleaning solution it came with and it did not remove the mess. Upon inspection I noticed that the grease splatters bubbled the cooktop and after cleaning you could see silver spots. Obviously the cooktop cannot handle grease splatters without ruining the cooktop. So if you are going to COOK on the COOKTOP BEWARE, it's not made for that! I called Sears to have someone come look at it hoping it was just a lemon of a cooktop. The warranty does not cover the cooktop. Only malfunctions of the range/oven. If it was from "wear and use" I could see that. But with only a few uses, I don't understand it. Obviously they know their cooktop is JUNK or they would at least check it out or warranty it for the first year. Want a range that's going to last through the use of a family? DO NOT CHOOSE THIS ONE!

So far, so good

The Mrs. and I shopped many double ovens. Whether Maytag, Electrolux, GE, Whirlpool or Fridgedaire (Sears elite), all offered something. We loved the sliding shelves of the Electrolux, the dependable history of Whirlpool and the clean lines all slide-in ranges offer. We didn't have the room for a wall oven setup but wanted enough space to cook a med-large turkey with convection. I read many reviews about the Sears elite and concentrated on the negatives. From having a slide-in convection range before (Kitchenaid) I knew about cleaning the electronic controls. But overall, the glass top is easy to keep clean, as long as you keep it clean! With all these choices, we ended up, even with some neg reviews, chose the Fridgedaire (Sears elite). Now, having the unit almost a year, it's time to give my two cents. It has worked flawlessly. If you don't use the convection, there are hot spots in the ovens. So when baking, unless something like a meatloaf, we tend to just turn on the convection and have zero complaints. For the cooktop, the turbo boil element is wonderful and the layout for the burners is fine. The warmer zone burner is a nice touch that frees up spice for big meals. Overall, we liked the looks, the layout, the convection, the two equal sized ovens (with 3 racks each!) and the glass cooking surface. The only reason I gave this unit four stars was because you need to be careful how you clean the electronic controls. The go wild when you scrub then with liquid. I can't imaging that it would be good for the electronics to be turned on and off quickly. Even the delivery person, (who does swaps, returns, etc), said the only complaint has been the controls. Personally, I use windex on the panel, let it soak and wipe off with a clean towel. No erratic beeps. If you need to do a thorough cleaning, I'd recommend shutting off the oven breaker. The sales person was knowledgeable and helpful. We took advantage of the 5% discount with a Sears credit card which also gave me points to use for other Sears purchases. We also purchased the 5 year warranty because of some people's comments. Overall, we are quite pleased and happy with our decision. The unit sits next to a S/S Samsung 4-door refer and Kitchenaide D/W and looks fine. I hope you are as happy and have as good of luck as we have if you choose this unit.

Would be great if it worked

Have had this stove for just over a year and the top oven is still not working. It is the one with oven light, so I tend to use this one if it was working. They have been in 5 times so far to repair and top oven is still not working yet. Customer service is just paying lip service since they never have the correct part in and it will take months to get the right part. On and on it goes and this will be my second Christmas with an oven that is not working. I am so disappointed with Sears. I was mistakenly under the impression that Sears was a good company to buy from. They are not. Stay away from Sears/Kenmore products.

Overall
Really nice stove!!

We got this slide in stove to replace a jenn-air downdraft that quit working. I have owned a few higher end stoves ($2500+). This one by far is the best!!! I have only had about a week. The ONLY compliant I have is it works to good! The oven heat up in less then 5 minutes and hold the temp very well I have had to cut cooking time. The stove top works very well to. I have to really watch food not to burn it. Put it this way I turned the burner on high then put hamburger in the skillet instantly turned it down to med (5) and still had the 1 lb brown in less then 3 minutes. I have had no issues with the cooktop scratching (I have the stanless steel model) I have cleaned it with my dish sponge at least 2-3 times a day I have used both sides (the spungie side and the scruby side).

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not very happy!

On the stove, the turbo is not fast and should work for two sized pots but doesn't. On the oven, it takes an eternity to reach desired temperature. When the oven is on the fan blows onto your body which is riduculous!

Love the range

I had the protection agreement and my range after 20 years stop working. It was a Jenni air and very expensive. Sear's replace it for me with this one. I have this one now for 6 weeks and I am enjoying it. The cook top is great. I love the different size of pots u can use on it. I have not had any trouble cleaning it. It cleans and shines very nice with recommend cleaner and a razor blade for food that stick on it. No scratches . I have a black top. We find it easy to use. The thing I don't like is that the controls stick out too far. It make it hard to reach the back to clean. I am not a tall person so it hit me in the mid section of my body. The fan does go on when the stove is on but, it not hot air that blows. I have not use the oven yet.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Beware! Inferior cooktop surface smooth

I have had this smooth top range since March, now it's July and the cooktop looks worse than the 9 year old one I replaced. The old Maytag cooktop didn't have a scratch on it. This one doesn't appear to be Ceran material and scratches horribly bad. I'm used to smooth top ranges having had 3 now and am very careful not to scoot pans etc. etc and my cooktop has scratches that I have no idea how they got there. It's just my husband and I so we've not got kids damaging things. This cooktop appears to have very very thin finish on it. For the amount of money we paid for it, the short time we've had it and the excellent care I've taken with it it's trash and I wouldn't buy it again. I'd send it back but we had granite countertop cut to fit it exactly so I guess I'll be looking at this mess for years to come. As an aside, the first time I cooked with the lower oven, holiday dinner, it ruined the light rolls I put in the lower over, burning the back right side within 5 minutes of putting them in. That seems to have straightened out now but it's still inferior merchandise.
